The national women’s ice hockey team of Kazakhstan lost to the Netherlands team in the World Ice Hockey Championship that was held in Strasbourg, France on April 7-13, Vesti.kz reports. The match ended with the score of 4:2. The Dutch hockey players were first to open the score. Mieneke de Jong delivered a puck 13 minutes into the match. De Jong doubled the lead by hitting Kazakhstan’s gates for the second time three minutes after that. Kazakhstan’s Zarina Tukhtiyeva made up ground by delivering a puck into the Dutch gate three minutes before the end of the second period. The most interesting moments happened at the 50th minute of the match. Dutch goalkeeper Claudia van Leeuwen and Kazakhstan’s Meruert Ryspek were sent off for dangerous slashing. Dutch hockey players delivered two pucks into Kazakhstan’s gates in 36 seconds after they became one player short. However, Kazakhstan’s Galina Shu hit the Dutch gates in response shortly after. The Netherlands moved up to the second line thanks to this victory and Kazakhstan moved down to the third place in the general ranking of the Championship. The Kazakhstan women’s team, coached by Aleksandr Maltsev, defeated the North Korean team in the first round and then won over the British team in a penalty shootout. Kazakhstan's next match was against France on April 12.
